About Niki
I hold a PhD in music composition where I explored methodologies of using, what I call, 'density fluctuations' in my music. I have around five years of experience in teaching composition and theory privately as well as around three years of experience in lecturing in composition at undergraduate university level. I am frequently premiered as a composer across Europe having had performances in Germany, Italy, Austria, France, Slovenia as well as the UK with future performances in Slovenia and Germany planned this year. I have given lectures and talks at contemporary music festivals and conferences throughout Europe, too. My music has also been written about and lectured on in conferences throughout Europe. I am enthusiastic about helping to guide the next generation of composers and help fuel their creative minds to produce exciting music.

Composition is not a subject that can be "taught" in the traditional sense, it is a subject where I believe that guidance and support are the best methods. Composition is extremely personal and my approach is to form a very solid foundation of technical knowledge where you can develop your style and approach to writing music. In addition to composition, I also teach music theory up to ABRSM Grade 8 as well as harmony/counterpoint lessons to A-level students and to undergraduate students. Music analysis lessons are also available on request. My composition lessons typically last for one hour, but I am able to offer 30 and 45 minute lessons both in-person (in Yorkshire) and remotely (worldwide over Zoom). I recently completed my PhD in music composition and have been teaching privately for around five years. I also spent three years as a lecturer in composition and theory at a University. My lessons are available to students of all ages and abilities, whether you are an advanced composer or just somebody who is intrigued and wants to learn more!
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
Niki and I completed our PhDs together at the University of Leeds. Across this time, I saw Niki flourish as a teacher of all sorts of music, delivering one-to-one tutorials, seminars, and lectures. Niki's students routinely achieved top marks and their enthusiasm was reflected both in termly Student Evaluation Questionnaires and how they interacted with Niki. Any student would be lucky to have Niki as a tutor!
Niki was great with my 12 year old. Kind, friendly and patient.
My child improved his voice and confidence to perform in a musical theatre roll.
Will definitely use Niki’s services again to prepare for the next production.View more recommendations
