About Dale
Hi, I’m Dale. I am a dedicated music educator with a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Oklahoma State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with concentrations in piano and euphonium. I earned a 5 on the AP Music Theory exam and completed four semesters of collegiate music theory, giving me a strong academic foundation that I combine with practical experience.
Over the past eight years I have taught private lessons, accompanied university students for recitals and juries, and served in leadership roles that required clear communication and musical guidance. I focus on making complex ideas understandable and useful, helping students build both skill and confidence at a steady, supportive pace. My goal is to provide professional, patient instruction that helps every learner make meaningful progress.

Hi, I’m Dale!
Teaching method and techniques:
I focus on making music theory clear and practical. We build from the basics into harmony, analysis, and real musical application, always connecting concepts to music you know or want to play.
A typical lesson plan:
Lessons usually include a short review, clear explanation of a new idea with examples, guided practice, and specific goals to work on before the next session.
What sets me apart:
I earned a 5 on the AP Music Theory exam and completed four semesters of collegiate theory. I regularly applied this knowledge while arranging, accompanying, and teaching piano for eight years, so I explain theory from both an academic and practical perspective.
Who the lessons are for:
These lessons work well for AP Music Theory students, college learners, adult musicians, and piano students who want a stronger theoretical foundation. I adapt the pace to each student’s background and goals.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
Dale has been teaching my 8 year old piano for an about a year now. We found him through Varsity Tutors when my son was just starting out with zero experience. I was a little nervous at first because my kid can get frustrated easily, but Dale has been so patient with him.
He’s really good at keeping things fun and not making it feel like pressure. My son actually looks forward to the lessons now, which I honestly didn’t expect. Dale explains things in a way that makes sense for a beginner and never rushes him. He’s kind, reliable, and just easy to work with.
I would definitely recommend him to other parents looking for someone who’s good with kids who are just getting started.I’ve been taking piano lessons with Dale for about a year now. I’m an adult learner who started pretty much from scratch in my 30s. I was a bit nervous at first, but Dale made it easy and fun to learn.
We met through a different tutoring platform called Varsity Tutors. I was looking for someone patient who wouldn’t make me feel stupid for being a beginner at this age. Dale is exactly that kind of teacher — calm, clear, and really good at explaining things without overcomplicating them. He kept the lessons practical and doesn’t me.
One thing that sticks with me is when we worked on a piece I really wanted to play but kept messing up the same part. I was getting frustrated. Dale just slowed everything down, showed me a better way to finger it, and had me practice it in small chunks. A couple of lessons later I could actually play through it cleanly!
I’d definitely recommend him. He’s reliable, easy to work with, and genuinely wants you to improve. If you’re an adult starting piano or trying to get better, Dale is a solid choice.View more recommendations
