About Millie
About Me
My name is Millie, and I am currently a music student at Royal Holloway University. I have been playing the violin for over 13 years and have always had a deep passion for music. Throughout my journey, I have been fortunate to receive excellent instruction in both violin performance and music theory, and I am eager to share this knowledge with others.
During my time at The BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology, I had the opportunity to perform in musical theatre productions such as Sweeney Todd, Spring Awakening, Beauty and the Beast, and Chicago. I also enjoyed exploring music from various cultures, including Nepal, France, Portugal, and Brazil. It was at The BRIT School that I began teaching others about the importance of music theory, using creative approaches to make it more accessible and enjoyable.
At university, I am a proud member of both the Symphony Orchestra and the string ensemble, where I continue to deepen my understanding of Western art music and global musical traditions. I believe that learning music theory should be both fun and engaging, as it is the key to fully appreciating and understanding the music we love.
In addition to music, I enjoy creative activities such as macramé, crochet, origami, and lino printing. I bring this same creativity into my teaching, making music theory lessons both informative and enjoyable for my students.

Approach to Tutoring:
Music theory can often be challenging, and many students find it difficult to grasp naturally. However, mastering music theory is essential for successful sight-reading and composition, both of which are key components in academic and practical music exams.
In my lessons, typically lasting one hour, I take a structured yet flexible approach tailored to each student's needs. We will work through ABRSM-approved theory books, focusing on areas that students find particularly difficult. The lessons are designed to simplify complex topics and provide practical exercises that enhance understanding and application. My goal is to guide students toward achieving their Grade 5 theory qualification, which is crucial for GCSE music students or those preparing for higher-level instrumental and vocal examinations.
Qualifications:
Grade 7 Music Theory
Distinction in Grade 8 Violin
Distinction in an Extended Music Diploma from The BRIT School
Course completion certificate for Yale University's online course "An Introduction to Classical Music"
GCSEs: Grade 9 (A*) in Music, Maths, English Language, Art, and Biology
Experience:
Volunteered at a local nursery, where I worked with young children to create engaging and educational activities.
Provided informal tutoring to friends and family for several years, which inspired me to pursue tutoring on a more regular basis as I attend university.
