About Amedeo

I am a native bilingual speaker of Italian and English, and I hold dual Italian and American citizenship. I grew up in both languages rather than learning one of them later, which means I can move between them naturally and explain how each one really works from the inside.

Language has been my professional work as well as my background. I spent three years as the lead Italian writer and editor for a large international app, producing original writing, translation, and audio content for an Italian audience. Earlier, I translated a television series into Italian that aired nationally in Italy. I have also taught Italian privately to individual students.

My academic training is in philosophy. I earned a BA summa cum laude and am completing an MA, and I have worked as a teaching assistant and a research assistant at the university level. That work was largely about taking difficult ideas and making them clear to someone hearing them for the first time, which is most of what good language teaching requires.

I am organized, punctual, and prepared for every lesson. I take notes on what each student is working on so that we build from one session to the next instead of starting over. If you tell me what you want the language for, I will shape the lessons around that.

About the lesson

My method:

I teach the language the way it is actually used, not the way textbooks arrange it. Lessons are built on conversation, with grammar introduced when it solves a problem you have just run into rather than as an isolated drill. I correct in two modes: light, in-the-moment corrections that keep you talking, and a short written recap at the end of each lesson with the three or four patterns worth practicing before we meet again. I also work as a writer and translator, so I can explain not just whether something is correct but why one phrasing sounds natural and another does not.

A typical lesson:

We open with about ten minutes of free conversation to warm up and to let me hear where you are that day. Then we spend the core of the lesson on the material you came for: a text, a topic, a work situation, a specific grammar point. The last few minutes are for questions and for the written recap. I adjust the balance for beginners, who need more structure and repetition early on.

What sets me apart:

I grew up bilingual in Italian and English and have lived and worked on both sides. I hold a BA and an MA in philosophy, which trained me to explain difficult things clearly and to answer the question behind the question.
