About Luna

Hello and welcome! My name is Luna Tomy Gomez, and I'm thrilled to share not only the Spanish language with you but also the rich tapestry of cultures that have shaped my life.

Born in the mountaintop city of Bogota Colombia, in South America, I came to the United States at the age of six. This early relocation ignited my fascination with languages and cultures, setting me on a path of discovery and education.

I pursued my passion for languages at Queens College in New York, where I delved into the intricate world of Comparative Literature, focusing on Spanish and English. This experience deepened my appreciation for the nuances of language and its power to connect people across cultures. Currently, I am on the cusp of completing my bachelor's degree in Communications at UNLV, further broadening my understanding of human interactions and the media that facilitate them.

My personal life is a testament to the beauty of cultural diversity. I am a proud mother of three wonderful children, navigating the joys and challenges of homeschooling my oldest. My entrepreneurial spirit led me to run my own doula business, supporting families during one of the most transformative experiences of their lives and running successful childbirth education classes in both Spanish and English. This role not only underscores my commitment to nurturing and care but also mirrors my approach to teaching — patient, supportive, and empathetic.

I've mastered the art of juggling multiple responsibilities - from scheduling and coordinating to supporting families with compassionate care. It's a realm where meticulous organization is not just valued but vital.

Travel has been an integral part of my life, allowing me to immerse myself in a myriad of cultures and perspectives. These experiences have enriched my understanding of the world, making me comfortable and adept at navigating diverse cultural landscapes. My family life, shared with my husband of Chinese Indonesian heritage, is a daily celebration of cross-cultural exchange and understanding.

About the lesson

-Gain cultural awareness and understanding of Spanish-speaking countries and their customs, traditions, and daily life.

As a tutor, my teaching method revolves around creating a dynamic and interactive learning environment that caters to the individual needs and learning styles of my students. I believe in employing a communicative approach, where students actively engage in real-life language scenarios to enhance their language proficiency. This includes a combination of speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities, supplemented with multimedia resources such as videos, audio recordings, and authentic texts to provide diverse learning experiences.
