I base my lessons on what the student's needs are, which vary from person to person! I evaluate student goals, strengths and weaknesses in the first lesson, and do ongoing evaluations to ensure that I am providing appropriate and interesting materials for our lessons.
Some examples of how I might structure a lesson:
For somebody looking to improve conversational skills, I would provide conversation topics, vocabulary building games and exercises, and listening practice within a lesson and assign appropriate homework for between classes. If a student wants to improve their writing skills, I would ask them to provide samples of their written work for us to edit together, offer grammar practice activities, and assign reading and writing assignments that are applicable to their interests/ goals which would provide a basis for our following lesson.
My name is Finn. I am a native English speaker from Calgary, Alberta in Canada. I am offering 1 on 1 English tutoring. I recently completed an online 168-hour "Teaching English as a Foreign Language" course (TEFL). Before my TEFL certification, I graduated from McGill University in April 2020 with a Bachelor's Degree in Music. I will be travelling to China once the pandemic settles down to pursue a career teaching English! I am looking for tutoring opportunities online in the meantime because I am unable to obtain a visa right now. I currently tutor several EFL students through video calls, as well as teaching children online through VIPKid and QKIDS. In addition to this teaching experience, I have taught music to children and adults in the past. I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese (reading and writing as well), and I can speak some French too so I have plenty of personal experience learning languages both in the classroom and through self-study.

Finn is actually my third teacher, i didn't stay long with my other two teachers. I felt the classes were too formal and dare i say uninspiring but with Finn right away we connected musically and he really tailored the classes to my personal taste, skills and where i was exactly with my music playing which made me comfortable very quickly. I recommend Finn to anyone who's serious about learning music and those who simply want to learn to basics and play around just for fun! 10/10
