About Hanh

I arrived in Quebec at the age of 2 and completed all of my schooling in Montreal, in French, so I am a native speaker. With a bachelor’s degree in art history and a bachelor’s degree in law, I worked in the legal field, ethics and human rights. My professional background has equipped me with a rigorous way of thinking (but also open mindedness ), a strong work ethic, a solid general knowledge base, and fluency in French, both spoken and written.

Personal circumstances have shaped my unconventional path to teaching. Like many parents, I have always helped my son with his studies, and even more so during the pandemic. This led me to discover a real passion for teaching. I even enrolled in elementary education courses at UQAM. In 2021, I began working part-time as a substitute teacher in Montreal’s public schools. This enriching experience allowed me to adapt to different types of students, especially those with learning difficulties, and to apply the requirements of the Quebec curriculum.

Curious young minds fascinate me - I am a lifelong learner myself! Making a difference is what drives me. Each student is unique, so I adapt. I am a positive and dedicated tutor with the experience and passion to support elementary-aged children in their learning—and, above all, to inspire their curiosity to learn and their desire to succeed. I know how to create a motivating and supportive learning environment.

However, I am available to help adult learners (from beginner to advanced levels) practice speaking French, with a focus on pronunciation and sentence structure. Sessions for adult learners take place online.

About the lesson

My primary role is to support your child in learning French. Improving French skills will undoubtedly have a positive impact on all other subjects (for which I also offer homework support). Learning becomes easier and stimulating, school more interesting, the student is motivated.

My approach aims to foster a love of reading, as well as oral expression. I work with the child’s school workbooks and textbooks, but also with books (suited to the child’s level and interests), play-based pedagogy and cultural references integration. I strongly believe that learning should not be limited to the classroom. Books, outings and travel are just a few examples. Children who love to read and who express themselves fluently learn with confidence and pleasure.

Because children learn best in person, tutoring (including homework help) takes place at my home (Saint-Laurent, Montreal) on Saturdays or Sundays between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Should it be more convenient for you, and if you live within a 5-kilometer radius of my home, tutoring lessons could take place at your home, but I’ll charge an extra hour for travel time.

To my students, I also offer tutoring sessions on professional days (journées pédagogiques), at my home, provided I am notified of the exact dates two weeks in advance. For these days, a minimum booking of 2 hours is required.

Once the tutoring-learning relationship is well established, I will also be available to help the student with homework during the week, if needed. During the week, help can only be provided online (not in person) from Tuesday to Thursday, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Learning should be enjoyable, especially for primary school students. Children progress better when they feel comfortable with their tutor. I offer the first half-hour lesson free of charge, so we can get to know each other and see if we are compatible. Tutoring sessions at my home take place both indoors and outdoors, weather permitting, unless you are absolutely opposed to outdoor sessions. I live across from a beautiful, safe park. Learning is sometimes more enjoyable and stimulating for children outdoors than at a desk.

Finally, why is there a cat in my profile picture? I’m a mom to a high schooler, two small dogs, and a cat - I make positive reinforcement a rule! If your child is allergic to pets, we’re not a good match.
