About Nicole

Ciao! Mi chiamo Nicole e insegno l'italiano che si parla davvero — and if you got most of that, you're already further along than you think.

I learned English and Spanish at University of Ferrara — I have a degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures.

I teach Italian online to adults in the US, the UK, and Europe — mostly complete beginners, and people who want to use the language in real life. I prepare every lesson in advance for the person I'm teaching, and I love when my students finish the lesson feeling more confident than when they started.

Alongside the lessons I've put together a guide to the 123 most-used Italian verbs and a twelve-week course for beginners, with an app my students use to practice between lessons. So you're not on your own between one lesson and the next — there's something to do whenever you have ten minutes.

And if the idea of speaking out loud makes you nervous — most of my students felt exactly that at the start — we'll go pian piano.

About the lesson

I know that feeling: the moment you understand every word the other person is saying and still can't get a sentence out. My lessons are built to gently close that gap.

We speak Italian from minute one, even if your Italian right now is "ciao" and nothing else. I explain in English or Spanish whenever you need it, so you're never lost — but I keep bringing you back.

Mistakes are welcome here, and I mean it. You can't learn to speak a language without saying a lot of wrong things out loud first. So say them! We'll fix them together.

A typical lesson with me:
We start by talking in Italian about your week through a real conversation, so I can hear where you are today. Then we work on the situation you actually need. You get the vocabulary and the structures it takes, and then you use them while I correct as you speak and note what's worth fixing. We close with the two or three things worth remembering, and I send you written notes afterward.
Grammar comes up when your sentences need it. Every lesson is adapted to your own pace.

Complete beginners (A0) through advanced (C1). They work especially well if you're traveling to Italy, moving here, have Italian family, or you've been studying for a while and still go quiet when it's your turn to speak. I also run small conversation groups for B1 and above.
