About Chiara

I'm Italian by birth (I grew up and studied in Italy until my early university years), but I later moved to Canada, where I completed my studies in communication and languages and worked for many years. My love for both languages is the heart of why I teach and what eventually brought me back to Italy, where I now live.

Sixteen years in, what still keeps me passionate about teaching is the people. Every student arrives with a completely different reason for learning: a job that suddenly requires Italian, a grandmother whose language they never learned, an exam standing between them and something they want, or simply a stubborn love for the sound of the language. I love hearing those stories, and I build my lessons around them.

Outside teaching, I work as a translator, editor, and writer, so I spend my days immersed in language in one form or another. I'm patient, friendly, and relaxed, and my lessons reflect that. I make sure they're full of conversation and interesting cultural insights instead of boring grammar drills.

If you're nervous about learning a new language, don't be. Italian is fun, expressive, and beautiful, and I'll make sure you can enjoy it from the very beginning!

About the lesson

I'm Chiara, native Italian and a professional linguist with over 16 years of Italian teaching experience. I'll help you speak Italian — not just study it!

I grew up and studied in Italy but began my teaching career in Ottawa, Canada, teaching Italian to government employees and university students preparing for official roles and demanding exams. Today I live and work in Italy, and I teach learners of every level, from complete beginners to advanced speakers.

How I teach

My lessons are conversation-based and practical. You'll be speaking from the very first lesson, because that's what actually builds fluency. Every course is built around you: your goals, your pace, and your reasons for learning, so you won't find one-size-fits-all lessons here.

I hold a Diploma from an Italian state school, and I've spent over 16 years teaching the language professionally, so alongside fluent everyday Italian, you'll get grammar explained clearly and correctly (and even Italian literature if you like it) whenever you want to understand why something works.

Who I work with

Whether you're learning for work, preparing for an exam, planning a trip to Italy, reconnecting with family roots, or simply falling for the language, I'll shape the lessons around what you need.

Having lived and worked in Canada for a long time, I speak English with complete ease, so I can support you in English whenever that helps — especially useful in the early stages.

Availability
I teach online and offer flexible lessons in terms of time, including evening lessons in Irish time, which suits students who are working or studying during the day.
