About NAOYA

Hello! My name is Naoya, and I am a native Japanese speaker currently studying at the University of Otago in New Zealand. Living and studying abroad has given me experience communicating with people from different cultural and language backgrounds, which helps me understand the challenges of learning a new language.

Before coming to New Zealand, I spent approximately one year teaching Japanese in Japan. Through this experience, I learned how to adapt lessons to different learning styles and levels while creating a supportive and enjoyable learning environment.

I became interested in teaching Japanese because I enjoy helping others learn about my language and culture. Whether you are learning Japanese for travel, study, work, or personal interest, I will do my best to make lessons engaging and easy to understand.

I also have an interest in linguistics and some knowledge of topics such as Japanese onomatopoeia, word formation, and the unique features of the Japanese language. For students who are interested, I can introduce these topics alongside practical language learning.

My goal is to help students gain confidence, improve their communication skills, and enjoy the process of learning authentic Japanese from a native speaker.

About the lesson

As a native Japanese speaker, I offer personalized Japanese lessons for beginners and intermediate learners. My teaching approach focuses on practical communication, including conversation practice, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and reading skills. Lessons are tailored to each student's goals and learning pace, whether they are preparing for a trip to Japan, studying the language at school, or learning for personal interest.

Standard lessons are 60 minutes long, although the duration can be adjusted to suit individual needs. I am currently a Japanese student studying at the University of Otago and can provide authentic language practice as well as insights into Japanese culture and daily life.

I welcome learners of all ages, from children to adults, and aim to create a relaxed, supportive, and enjoyable learning environment where students can build confidence and improve their Japanese skills effectively.
