About Naoto

I have lived in Wellington for about ten years now, during which time I’ve had the privilege of teaching music to many wonderful students. I truly enjoy working with young learners and being a part of their growth. Over time, I noticed many of my students becoming curious about my heritage and how my language works. I often found myself thinking, 'I wish I could teach them Japanese, too'—so I decided to take the leap and do exactly that!

About the lesson

Learning a language in a vacuum is one of the hardest things you can do. My goal is to make Japanese the tool, not just the task. Here is how I will approach your journey together:

Communication First: I prioritize speaking and listening from day one. Language is a living thing, and its primary purpose is connection. I would focus on getting you comfortable with the sounds and rhythms of natural Japanese so you can start using it immediately.

Purpose-Driven Learning: We all know that learning a language is a marathon, and it’s easy for motivation to dip when you're just staring at textbooks. To keep your momentum going, I integrate subject-based learning. Whether it’s through music, a specific hobby, or a personal interest of your choice, we will use your new Japanese skills to explore a topic you already love. This ensures you aren't just "studying"—you’re experiencing.

Flexible Environment: While I find that face-to-face sessions offer the most organic energy for conversation, I also offer online lessons to fit into your schedule. My priority is creating a consistent, supportive space for you to grow.
