About Nancy

I'm a native Mandarin speaker originally from Taiwan, now based in Vancouver, Canada. I bring over 20 years of authentic Chinese language experience, having grown up fully immersed in Taiwan's rich language and culture from the very beginning of my life.

My Background
I received a complete fourteen years of formal Chinese education in Taiwan, from elementary school all the way through high school. This means I didn't just learn Chinese — I lived it, breathed it, and grew up thinking, dreaming and expressing myself in it every single day. Reading, writing, speaking and understanding Chinese is as natural to me as breathing! Beyond language, I have a deep professional background in design and technology, which means I bring creativity, structure and visual thinking into every lesson I teach. I love finding innovative and engaging ways to make Chinese feel exciting and accessible for every student.

My Personal Journey With Chinese
Here is something most tutors won't tell you — I actually used to hate Chinese class as a kid! The endless characters, the confusing tones, the mountains of homework… I completely understand the frustration because I lived it myself. But over 20 years something magical happened. I began to see the beauty hidden inside every character, the rhythm and music in the tones, and the incredible depth of culture behind every word. Chinese stopped being a burden and became my greatest passion. That personal journey is exactly what makes me different. I don't just teach Chinese — I help you fall in love with it the same way I did.

My Personality and Teaching Style
I am warm, patient, encouraging and genuinely passionate about helping people grow. I believe every student has the potential to master Chinese — they just need the right teacher who truly understands their journey. In my lessons you will always find a safe, supportive and fun environment where making mistakes is completely okay and every small win is celebrated! Outside of teaching I am passionate about design, technology, content creation. These interests keep my lessons fresh, modern and connected to real life! I cannot wait to be part of your Chinese learning journey!

About the lesson

Hi! I'm Nancy, a native Mandarin speaker born and raised in Taiwan with 20 years of immersive Chinese language experience.
Growing up, I was actually the kid who dreaded Chinese class the most — too many characters to memorize, tones that made no sense! But after 20 years of learning, living and breathing the language, I completely fell in love with Chinese. That journey means I truly understand every struggle my students face, and I know exactly how to help you overcome them!

My Teaching Methodology
Every student learns differently, which is why I never use a one-size-fits-all approach. My lessons are built around your personal goals, learning style and pace. I combine:

Conversational practice using real life scenarios
Fun games and storytelling to make characters memorable
Systematic pinyin and tone training from the very beginning
Cultural context to bring the language alive
Regular feedback so you always know your progress

What a Typical Lesson Looks Like
We start with a warm up conversation to build confidence, then move into the main topic whether that is reading, writing, speaking or grammar. I always include fun interactive activities and end every lesson with a clear summary of what you learned and what to practice next.
