About Shelby

I am currently studying to become a Registered Nurse (RN) at VIU. I went to high school in Victoria, BC and graduated in 2018 with honours. I am capable of tutoring any age and have worked with children as young as 4 as well as with teens, adults, and seniors.
Up to and including the grade 12 level, I can tutor the following subjects: English, French Language, Chemistry, Biology, social studies, psychology, math (not including calculus), and health. I can also tutor physics 11, and the basics of the saxophone and cello.

About the lesson

I can teach in a variety of ways based on the subject and what works best for the student. I am adaptable and enter every session with more than one plan of action based on what works for the student.
In general, I prefer to identify the areas where there are gaps by asking the students to identify what they want help with or by having them give me examples of what's working for them and what isn't and adjusting what I teach based on their feedback. I like to use a strength based approach that focuses on what the student identifies as areas they're confident in, and building off those areas to broaden their understanding.
When teaching, I often employ a method that uses detailed explainations as I work through demonstrastrations and then asking the student work through the probelm and identify what makes sense and what does not so that I can focus in on the ideas that don't yet make sense using different methods to find what works best.
