About Afiya
Hi! My name is Afiya, I am a grade 11 student, attending FFCA. I am passionate about many subjects such as the ones I teach, which are, biology, math, LA, and other sciences. Some of my specialties are public speaking as I am a part of an ambassador group at my school who frequently talks in assemblies and announcements to better help work with children. I am also a part of organizations such as YM and MCNA where we take charge and lead youth in our community in order to teach more about our religion. We also lead programs such as the MHD festival every year. I love to read, write, play badminton, crochet, public speak, debate and so much more.

As a high school student I know how the way a teacher explains a lesson is not always picked up by the child's learning type. As a tutor I will always make sure that a student will have a certain way of picking up what I let down in whatever way is comfortable with them. I focus on understanding the why behind a concept rather than simply memorizing formulas or answers. For math and trigonometry, I like to work through problems step-by-step, explain different ways to approach a question, and then have the student try similar problems independently. For biology and science, I use clear explanations, examples, diagrams, and practice questions to make difficult concepts easier to understand. For English Language Arts, I can help with reading comprehension, writing, grammar, essay organization, and developing ideas. I will start by figuring out the problem in the child's learning and find ways to overcome that. Making hands-on learning will be essential, along with practice tests and study guides. I will be comfortable with teaching grades 1-10 and any subjects, but my specialties are biology, math, ELA.
