About Melissa

Hello,

My name is Ms. Melissa! As you will soon see, I am friendly yet professional thus creating a welcoming atmosphere with boundaries.
I taught various grades from KG to middle school. I spent most of my career teaching English Language Learners
(students whose first languages are not English) from diverse backgrounds. I teach core subjects such as maths, English, science and social studies.
I look forward to creating a positive tutor/student relationship where I help you meet your scholastic goals!

About the lesson

My lessons cater to KG to Grade 6 students as such they are interactive.
Modelling a concept is important for students whose first language is not English.
For example, to infer or identifying inferences might be challenging without a relatable modelled example.

I would have an umbrella and ask an open-ended question, "Why do you think I have an umbrella?" Most likely the student would say because it is raining.

My second open-ended question would be, "How do you know?" Most likely the student would make a connection to their life.

At this point, I would introduce the concept.
We would then work on more examples by possibly playing charades followed by written examples.
Finally, a short story/text would be introduced for the student to identify inferences.
