About Julian
I love teaching, and I am there to fit learning specifically around your needs. I draw on a decade of teaching at Oxford and Cambridge, as well as extensive outreach work with secondary school students from Year 7 to Sixth Form. I have marked for the LNAT and interviewed candidates for Cambridge admissions, so I understand these processes from the inside. My academic background, a Double First from Oxford and a PhD from Cambridge, means I can support work at the highest level while keeping things accessible and clear.
My experience across a range of different audiences means that I know how to make sessions comfortable and productive regardless of where you are starting from. No question is ever too silly, and I am there above all to help you get the best out of your experience.
Most importantly, I have been there myself. I went through GCSEs, A Levels, the Oxbridge application process, and postgraduate study, so I can offer advice from someone who knows the system from the inside as a student, not just as a teacher.
I'm there to put my students at ease and make them feel empowered going into their assessments. Everyone has potential inside them, and I am there to help you hone it.

My lessons are built entirely around you. Before we begin, I'll take time to understand your goals, your current confidence level, and what you'd like to get out of our sessions. From there, I design a tailored programme that fits your needs, whether that's working through a specific exam syllabus, strengthening core skills like essay writing and close analysis, or preparing for university interviews.
Sessions typically last one hour, though this can be adjusted depending on your preferences. I use a mix of discussion, guided practice, and targeted feedback. For History students, this often means working closely with texts and sources together, building the analytical skills that examiners reward. For admissions support, sessions are more conversational. We might practise interview questions, workshop a personal statement draft, or talk through what Cambridge and Oxford are really looking for.
I work with GCSE, A Level, undergraduate, and mature students. My style is patient, supportive, and encouraging. I want every student to leave a session feeling more confident and better equipped than when they arrived.
