About Freya

I'm a native English speaker who's been learning and speaking Spanish for twenty years. I studied Spanish to Masters level at Oxford University and spent a year working as an English teacher in Valencia, Spain, as part of my degree. Since then I've tutored privately, assisted with undergraduate interviews at Oxford University, and worked for Oxbridge Applications helping A Level students prepare for interview. I visit Spain when I can and enjoy reading novels, watching shows and talking to Spanish friends in between to keep my Spanish up-to-date and to keep learning - it's a lifelong passion!

About the lesson

I know language learning can sometimes seem confusing and daunting, so I'm here to help break it down and bring it to life! If you’re… Studying for exams / New Learner: We will work to support your syllabus or take a structured approach to grammar and vocabulary to build confidence and proficiency. Unless you’d like to focus on a specific skill, we’ll split our time between speaking, listening, reading and writing and use songs, articles, poems etc. to keep things varied and engaging. Advanced Students / Conversation Practice: We’ll talk about topics you love - books, film, current affairs - and read and write a bit about them too to address grammar as we go. We can read a text together, work on a translation, anything you’d like to focus on. University/Oxbridge prep: We’ll revise advanced grammar, practise speaking and do some interview practice. The latter will usually include discussing short Spanish texts in English and talking in Spanish about yourself and your motivation for studying it at uni. Degree level: We can work on translation, close reading of texts, essay writing etc. Feel free to get in touch to talk more about what you need. Practicalities: Lessons take place online and last one hour.

Perfect! I’ve just had my first online Spanish lesson and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Freya was absolutely fantastic – friendly, approachable, and incredibly supportive throughout. Being English herself, she really understands the challenges that come with learning a new language, and she made the whole process feel far less daunting.
She lived and taught in Spain for a year, and her knowledge of the language – along with its cultural and conversational nuances – really shines through in her teaching. She explained everything clearly, broke things down in a way that made sense, and created a relaxed, fun atmosphere that made me feel completely at ease.
I came away from the session feeling encouraged and motivated, and I’m genuinely looking forward to continuing my lessons with her.
