About James
Hi, I'm JP, a University of Oxford music student offering a range of tuition options in music. I have a deep understanding of many genres of music, having performed and studied music of many genres across the world. My specialities include music theory, musical analysis, performance (Grade 8 singing, piano and violin along with tours in the UK, USA, China etc), and music composition/production. I've been tutoring officially for 2 years, but teaching for around 6 years, including music/drama workshops at local schools and martial arts coaching. I adore music, and hope to share that enthusiasm with all of my students!

I offer practical, personalised support for university applicants, specialising in Music and Oxford applications. Sessions are tailored to the student’s chosen course, universities and current stage of preparation.
Mock interviews recreate the pressure and unpredictability of a real academic interview. We can practise discussing musical extracts, unfamiliar material, submitted work and wider academic interests. Students receive detailed feedback on their reasoning, communication and ability to respond thoughtfully when challenged.
For personal statements and UCAS application responses, I help students select their strongest material, demonstrate genuine academic engagement and communicate their experiences clearly. I can review and improve multiple drafts while ensuring that the final application remains entirely the student’s own work and voice.
Note - I provide independent coaching based on my experience as a successful applicant and current Oxford student. I am not affiliated with Oxford’s admissions team, and all submitted application material must remain entirely the applicant’s own work.
