About Marissa

I've been an artist most of my life, I love art! The journey into Art History and the realm of Islamic Art began during my senior year at George Washington Academy in Casablanca, Morocco. This experience provided a strong appreciation for Art History, shaping my academic path. I received a Bachelor's degree with a specialization in Islamic Art from CSULB. My knowledge was refined through an internship with the Art of the Middle East LACMA. Specific interests, such as the Akbarnama (Book of Akbar), by Abul Faz'l, and the Tabrizi and Herati styles, are personal interests of mine in the realm of Islamic Art. Teaching art history is not just about memorizing facts; it's about making learning engaging and inspiring. I'm dedicated to helping students understand the stories and cultural significance behind each piece, while strengthening their ability to critically analyze each work, executing excellent writing skills and confidence in art research and exams.

Hello! I’m Marissa, a BA graduate in Art History with an emphasis on Islamic Art, and I’m passionate about making art history approachable, relevant, and inspiring. I teach students of all levels — from middle and high school to university and lifelong learners — who want to: Understand key movements, artists, and artworks across cultures and time periods Strengthen writing, critical thinking, and visual analysis skills Dive deeper into specialized areas like Islamic Art, museum studies, or cultural history My teaching approach: I tailor each lesson to your learning style and goals, whether it’s exam prep, essay support, or exploring art for personal enrichment. I use visual resources, storytelling, and comparative analysis to bring history to life. I focus on building confidence — helping you not only memorize facts, but truly see and interpret works of art. What sets me apart: Specialized background in Islamic Art (rare in many programs) Experience working with museum collections and cultural institutions Ability to connect art history with broader themes in history, religion, and society Whether you’re preparing for coursework, aiming to improve your grades, or simply want to enrich your knowledge, I’d love to guide you on your art history journey!
