Long term memory is stored semantically. Semantically meaning understanding. Understanding is key to fully grasp concepts in Biology, because there is so much content that it is impossible just to memorise everything and expect to regurgitate it in exams. For example, if I was to ask you to learn the number 9102, and recall this number to me three hours later, you would find it difficult. But if I teach you the significance of this number, and make you understand what it means, that it’s 2019 backwards, you will always remember it, it may take you an extra second to recall, but you will remember it even in three months time. This is because I helped you understand the significance of what I taught you. This is my teaching method, I help you understand the significance, so you will truly love and improve in Biology!
