About Paul
I have always been drawn to the logic and elegance of mathematics and science, the way a complex problem dissolves into something simple once the right foundations are in place. That instinct for breaking things down clearly and methodically is at the core of how I teach.
My background is broad and practical. I have worked professionally in technical and managerial roles, including several years in farm management where a significant part of my responsibility involved training and instructing students in hands-on technical skills. That experience taught me how to read a learner quickly, adapt my approach on the fly, and explain unfamiliar concepts in ways that actually land. I have since taught in informal instructional settings across the US and Europe.
Alongside my teaching experience I have a strong professional background in computer science, programming, and applied mathematics, which keeps my relationship with quantitative subjects active and current rather than purely academic.
I take tutoring seriously. I prepare for sessions, I track each student's progress, and I communicate openly with both students and parents when needed. My goal is not just to help a student pass a test, it is to leave them with a genuine understanding of the material and the confidence to tackle it independently.
I work with middle school and high school students across math and science, and I am committed to making sure every student I work with feels supported, capable, and clear.

Teaching Method and Techniques
My approach is calm, methodical, and student-led. I start every new student by identifying exactly where their understanding breaks down rather than assuming the problem is where they think it is. From there I rebuild from the foundations up, using clear step-by-step explanations and real-world examples to make abstract concepts concrete. I don't move on until the student genuinely understands, not just recognizes the answer.
A Typical Lesson
A typical lesson opens with a short review of the previous session to reinforce retention, then moves into the current topic with guided examples worked through together. I encourage students to talk through their reasoning out loud as we go. This is one of the fastest ways to identify where confusion is hiding. We close each session with independent practice problems so the student leaves with confidence rather than just notes.
What Sets Me Apart
My background is unconventional. Alongside a strong foundation in mathematics and science, I have hands-on experience teaching practical technical skills in real-world environments, work that required exactly the kind of patient, adaptive instruction that good tutoring demands. I also have a professional background in computer science and programming, which gives me an edge with students tackling quantitative or logic-based material. I'm not a one-size-fits-all tutor. I adjust my pace, style, and examples to fit the individual student.
Who These Lessons Are For
My lessons are suited to middle school students building their foundational math and science skills, as well as high school students working through algebra, geometry, precalculus, biology, chemistry, and physics. I'm particularly well suited to students who are feeling stuck, falling behind, or lacking confidence in the subject — and who need someone to slow down, strip things back, and rebuild from a solid base.
