About Riri

Born and raised in Japan, Japanese is my native language. I also lived in the United States for five years, so I speak English and understand firsthand what it feels like to learn, work, and live in another language.

As a bilingual tutor, I can teach you authentic, natural Japanese while explaining grammar, expressions, and cultural differences clearly in English whenever you need it.

My teaching style is highly personalized. Some of my students simply want to enjoy Japanese, practice conversation, prepare for travel, or feel more comfortable speaking with Japanese friends. Others want a structured academic program with grammar, writing, homework, assessments, and JLPT preparation.

You don't have to fit into one teaching style — I adapt the program to you.

Beyond teaching Japanese, I work in international consulting and run my own business in Japan. This allows me to also support students who want to learn professional Japanese, business communication, or practical Japanese for actually living and working in Japan.

Whether you're learning Japanese for fun or working toward a serious goal, my aim is the same: to help you learn Japanese in a way that is practical, enjoyable, and sustainable for you.

About the lesson

Your Japanese lessons should fit your goals — not the other way around.

Whether you want relaxed conversation practice once a week or a highly structured study program with homework and assessments, your lessons can be designed around your goals, level, schedule, and preferred learning style.

New students begin with a short assessment and goal consultation. From there, I recommend the learning style and program that best fits you.

Lessons may include natural conversation, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, practical Japanese, business Japanese, or JLPT preparation.

For students who want more structure, I also offer programs with weekly study plans, homework, writing assignments, corrections, assessments, and progress tracking. If you prefer a lighter approach, that's completely fine too — homework and intensive study are not required.

Choose the level of structure that works for you:

Basic — Relaxed Japanese learning at your own pace
Standard — Balanced lessons with more structured progress
Academic — Systematic study of grammar, reading and writing
Intensive — Frequent lessons, homework, assessments and close progress tracking
JLPT Preparation — Available as an additional focus
Custom Lessons — Fully tailored for specific or unusual learning goals

I teach more than textbook Japanese. You'll also learn how Japanese people actually communicate — including natural wording, pronunciation, tone, context, and expressions that textbooks often don't explain.

Casual or serious, beginner or advanced — we'll build the Japanese program that works for you.
