About Thu
I’m a York University student majoring in Data Science with a strong foundation in mathematics and problem-solving. I graduated high school with a 9.3 GPA overall and 8.6 in math, and I’ve built my tutoring approach around clarity, patience, and steady progress. I know what it’s like to start from confusion, and I know how to turn that into understanding. My goal is to help students build not just grades, but confidence — by making math feel logical, approachable, and even enjoyable.

1. Start by understanding how they think, not what they don’t know.
Before diving into lessons, I’d ask them to explain how they currently approach problems. This helps me see where the misunderstanding starts — whether it’s basic arithmetic, concept connections, or confidence. I’d rather rebuild their logic than just patch over mistakes.
⸻
2. Simplify concepts through visual and real-life examples.
I’d use simple visuals, small physical examples, or relatable situations (like sharing food, measuring distance, or money) to make abstract ideas concrete. Once they can visualize, formulas stop feeling random.
⸻
3. Build confidence through small, visible wins.
Confidence usually breaks before comprehension does. I’d give them short, achievable tasks and celebrate correctness — not loudly, just consistently — so they start associating math with success instead of anxiety. Each small win resets their attitude toward learning.
⸻
4. Break every topic into repeatable steps and patterns.
Instead of dumping a whole chapter at once, I’d teach them to see every problem type as a pattern: recognize → choose rule → apply → check. When they internalize structure, they stop guessing and start solving with intent. That structure also makes revision simpler.
⸻
5. Teach them how to learn math, not just how to do it.
I’d show them how to review, organize notes, and explain solutions out loud — turning passive study into active recall. Once they can teach back what they’ve learned, they’ve mastered it. My goal isn’t just higher grades, it’s giving them independence in learning.
