About Garison

Started his music studies focusing on the music Solfeggio and basic theory at the age of 8 (2008) under the guidance of Maestro Ray Sciberras within a local band club, the Societa Filarmonica Maria Mater Gratiae in Żabbar, Malta.

After 2 years (2010), he was introduced and started learning trumpet under the guidance of Maestro Kevin Mizzi within the same band club. In 2011, Garison debuted for the first time in front of an audience at a local Christmas Concert as a duo with a piano.

Following that, in 2012, he was published as an official band member and started to perform in several local feasts around Malta. Meanwhile he started to also study music under the guidance of Maestro Ugo Buhagiar within the St Margaret College Secondary School where he also performed in concerts and events like the Chogm in 2015. After a few years Garison decided to become a freelance musician and ended up being self-thought for a while.

In 2018, went to Italy to broaden his knowledge on the art of trumpet playing and from that time onwards, Garison has studied with several teachers and trumpet players from around the world. With:

Swanson, Jumaane Smith, Serafin Aguilar, Andrea Giuffredi, Jens Lindemann, Arturo Sandoval, Bryan Davis, Gerard Prescencer, Pacho Flores, Mike Lovatt.

Locally in Malta, Garison have been performing and performed with several bands, orchestras and events like with the Malta Concert Orchestra, Versatile Brass, The Big Band Brothers, Fakawi, The Travellers, at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, at a local festival Mużika Mużika, with D Capitals Big Band, Brass Tubes, The United Nations of Salsa Big Band, and more. For some years, he was also the trumpet soloist for the Malta Police Force Band.

In 2022, Garison was selected to attend a course with The Royal Marines Band in the UK where he had the opportunity to perform and march with musicians from the actual band and other attendees. In addition, he started to teach trumpet players of all ages from across the world but mostly locally. Garison was a brass teacher and musical assistant director within the St Anne's Band Club, and he is currently occupying the role of a brass teacher within two other band clubs; at the Maestro Frankie Galea Music Academy within the Anici Band Club, and at the Vittoriosa Kids Music Centre within the Societa Musicale St Lawrence.

Specializing in High Notes and Big Band Music.

My trumpet lessons are tailored to each student’s individual goals, experience level, and musical interests. Whether you are a complete beginner learning your first notes, a school band student preparing for auditions, or an advanced player looking to refine technique and musicianship, I create a structured learning plan designed to help you progress efficiently and confidently. Lessons are supportive, engaging, and focused on building both technical skills and a genuine enjoyment of music.

Students can expect a balanced approach that combines fundamentals with practical music-making. We work on essential trumpet skills such as breathing technique, embouchure development, tone production, articulation, flexibility, range building, intonation, rhythm, and music reading. As students advance, lessons may also include phrasing, musical interpretation, improvisation, audition preparation, performance techniques, and stylistic approaches for different genres, including classical, jazz, commercial, and contemporary music.

My teaching methodology emphasizes developing strong fundamentals that create lasting results. I break complex concepts into manageable steps and provide clear demonstrations, targeted exercises, and constructive feedback to help students improve efficiently. I believe in teaching not just what to practice, but how to practice effectively, so students can make consistent progress between lessons and become more independent musicians.

One of my strengths as a teacher is identifying the specific challenges that may be limiting a student’s progress and providing practical solutions tailored to their needs. Whether you are working to improve your tone quality, expand your range, increase endurance, prepare for performances, overcome technical difficulties, or build confidence as a performer, I will help you develop the skills and habits necessary to achieve your goals.

Above all, I strive to make lessons motivating, encouraging, and rewarding. My goal is to help students become confident, expressive trumpet players with a solid technical foundation and a deeper understanding of music, while fostering a lifelong appreciation for learning and performing.
