About Sara
Hi! I’m Sara, a PhD student in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UBC Okanagan, currently doing research in neuroscience. I’ve worked as a Teaching Assistant and private tutor for several years, helping students at different levels feel more confident in chemistry and biology.
I truly enjoy teaching and love seeing students go from feeling stuck to finally understanding a topic. I know how overwhelming science can be, so I focus on explaining things in a simple, clear, and supportive way. I’m patient, approachable, and always happy to adapt to your pace and learning style.
My goal is not just to help you get better grades, but to help you feel confident and comfortable with the material.

My teaching approach is structured, personalized, and focused on making complex topics simple and clear. I tailor each session based on your needs and learning style to ensure you truly understand the material, not just memorize it.
Before each lesson, I ask students to send their assignment, questions, or the topics they would like to cover. If you don’t have specific materials, please let me know the topic at least 2-3 days in advance so I can prepare customized explanations and practice problems for you.
A typical session includes a clear explanation of key concepts, step-by-step problem solving, and guided practice to reinforce your understanding. I also share tips for exams and help you develop effective study strategies.
Lessons are conducted online via Zoom, where I use a digital whiteboard to explain everything clearly and interactively, so you can follow along just like in a real classroom.
What sets me apart is my combination of research experience and teaching background. As a PhD student and university Teaching Assistant, I bring both deep subject knowledge and the ability to explain difficult concepts in a simple, approachable way. My goal is not only to help you succeed academically, but also to build your confidence in science.
My lessons are suitable for high school students (Grades 8-11), university students (such as CHEM 121), and anyone looking for support in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology.
