About Ramya
I hold a PhD in Chemistry with a specialization in computational materials science, and I have spent about 12 years working as a researcher across universities in India, Iceland and Germany, and in industry in Singapore. I have published more than 25 peer-reviewed papers in international journals, which have been cited over 900 times, and I have presented my work at international conferences.
Teaching has been part of my work throughout. During my postdoctoral years in Germany I supervised PhD and Master's students, guiding them through their research and their scientific writing. At Dyson in Singapore I led a team and trained colleagues from chemistry, process engineering and product backgrounds who had no experience with the methods I worked in. Explaining difficult material clearly to people at different starting points is something I have done for most of my career, and it is the part of the work I have enjoyed most.
I am patient, well organized, and I take preparation seriously. I would rather spend a lesson properly understanding why something is not making sense than move quickly through material a student is not following.

I have a PhD in Chemistry and about 12 years of research experience across universities in India, Iceland and Germany, and industry in Singapore. During my postdoctoral years I supervised PhD and Master's students, and at Dyson I trained colleagues from chemistry, engineering and product teams who had no background in simulation. Explaining difficult technical material to people at very different starting points is something I have done for most of my career.
My approach is to work out where a student is actually stuck rather than repeating the textbook. In physics and chemistry, most difficulty comes from a concept that was never properly understood earlier, not from the topic in front of them, so I spend time finding that gap first. I use worked problems heavily, because in these subjects understanding usually arrives through solving things rather than listening. I ask students to explain reasoning back to me, since that is where confusion shows up.
Lessons are usually 60 minutes, or 90 minutes for exam preparation when we work through past papers. I teach secondary students taking O Level and A Level physics and chemistry, and university students in physics, chemistry and thermodynamics. I also help postgraduate students with scientific writing and research methods, which draws directly on having published more than 25 peer-reviewed papers.
