About Soumyajyoti
I'm a physicist. I hold a PhD in Physics and currently work as a postdoctoral researcher in France, studying terahertz spectroscopy and photonics — using light to see inside materials. Before that I earned an M.Tech at IIT Kharagpur and an M.Sc at Jadavpur University, and spent two years as a physics laboratory teaching assistant.
That teaching work is where I learned something that stayed with me: students rarely struggle because physics is hard. They struggle because somewhere along the way a concept got memorized instead of understood, and everything built on top of it wobbles. Finding that spot and fixing it is the part I enjoy most.

I teach physics the way I use it as a researcher: the physical picture first, the equations second. Every concept starts with what's actually happening — a diagram, an analogy, a limiting case — before we write anything down.
**How a class runs**
We open by checking what you already understand, since most difficulty comes from one broken link rather than the whole topic. I then explain the concept with visual and physical reasoning, and we work through problems together, with you doing the reasoning aloud while I correct the method rather than just the answer. Each session ends with a short set of practice problems, reviewed at the start of the next one.
**What I bring**
A PhD in Physics, two years as a physics laboratory teaching assistant at IIT Kharagpur, and current postdoctoral research in terahertz spectroscopy and photonics in France. That means I can connect textbook material to real experiments and real instruments — and I'm comfortable with the computational side too, including MATLAB, Python and simulation tools.
**Who this is for**
School students building foundations, undergraduates in physics or engineering, and postgraduates working on mechanics, electrodynamics, waves and optics, quantum physics or solid-state physics. I also support research students with data analysis, laboratory methods and scientific writing. Sessions are one-on-one, online, and paced to the student.
