About Yanlin
I am a PhD student in Education at the University of Ottawa, with a Master’s degree in Economics and Education from Columbia University and previous study experience in Japan. My diverse international academic background allows me to understand language learning from cross-cultural, educational, and economic perspectives.
I am patient, detail-oriented, and highly experienced in working with multilingual learners. Having studied in multiple countries, I fully understand the challenges of acquiring academic English, building confident oral expression, and adapting to Western learning systems.
My teaching style is supportive, structured, and stress-free. I combine professional educational theory, analytical training from my Columbia program, and practical learning strategies to help students improve reading comprehension, logical speaking skills, and master effective SAT test-taking techniques.

My lessons are fully-customized one-on-one sessions built around your personal goals, current level and learning pace. Drawing on my PhD training in Education, I avoid rote memorization and focus on building practical language competence and critical-thinking skills.
For reading practice, we break down complex passages step-by-step, analyze text structures, identify key arguments and work through comprehension traps. For oral expression, we practice structured output, address logical gaps in speech, and build your confidence to speak clearly.
For SAT prep and test-oriented training, we go through real test questions, summarize exam patterns, master question-solving strategies and target your weak points.
