About Yiyang

I am originally from Fuzhou, China, and have lived and studied in Vancouver for over eight years. I am currently a PhD student in planning and have more than five years of experience as a Teaching Assistant at the University of British Columbia. This background means I am highly organized, patient, and experienced in explaining complex concepts clearly. I am comfortable working with students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles. I bring a professional yet easy-going approach to my lessons. Outside of teaching, I enjoy food hunting and Pilates, which helps me bring positive energy and focus to each session.

About the lesson

I help English speakers move from “textbook Chinese” to confident, natural Mandarin. After 8+ years living in Vancouver, I deeply understand how English thinking affects Chinese speaking and pronunciation. My lessons focus on tone accuracy, accent reduction, and real-life sentence patterns, with clear English explanations. Beginners gain fast speaking confidence, while advanced students receive high-level academic and professional training, including Business Chinese and polished writing, supported by my CATTI certification (a nationally recognized professional translation and interpretation qualification in China).
