About Keaton
My interests include common practice period composition, and its intersection with evolving music theoretical practices over time. What does that all mean? I like music that sounds great, and enjoy figuring out why it sounds great. I try to emulate and make use of what I hear. Other interests I gravitate towards are cooking, reading, exercise, and posting witty lesson advertisements on Superprof.

Whether you are an eager beginner or experienced musician looking for more, I provide lessons tailored towards what you, the student, wants to learn. Whether that's facility at the keyboard, getting a better grasp on music theory, or gaining a sense of fulfillment by writing your own compositions, I am here for you and your interests.
My approach builds off music education practices of the past as a means of highlighting the unique features of today's music. Like they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! In a typical lesson, a student can expect the use of materials from a wide array of sources and time periods. New assignments will be provided on a weekly basis and independent study is expected outside of private instruction.
All age levels are welcome. Are you any of the following?: an individual looking for enrichment for themself or family member; a high schooler or university student preparing for a Music Theory exam; an adult looking to utilize some free time or rekindle an early interest in music at the piano; a music lover that has always wanted to put pen to paper. If so, then I can gladly be of assistance.
My interests in music theory and composition give lessons a broad, unique perspective geared towards practical application. If you learn it from me, you're gonna use it.
Qualifications include two degrees in piano performance- University of Oregon (MM), James Madison University (BA). Prior instructional positions include numerous engagements with local studios, my own private studio, and public school music departments. Samples of my compositions may be viewed through Youtube.
