About Luiz

I am currently an Au Pair in Germany. I have taught English for two years in Brazil and I want to broaden this experience reaching out to the people abroad who have interest (or the need) in learning the beautiful Portuguese language. I have lived near Pittsburgh for a year and in Anchorage for nine months. Then nine more months in Istanbul and all this experience accompanied by my passion for languages give me the motivation to help you.

About the lesson

The Portuguese language taught in books is correct, however, the language spoken on the street is heavily featured with slang, expressions and in speed that puzzles almost every foreigner. Also, many people use their knowledge of Spanish as a reference, which can help OR not (as in how to pronounce the name José in Brazil). I like tailoring the teaching according to the needs of the student. One of the upsides of private lessons is not being restricted to books and language school methodologies. I also believe in incorporating subjects of interest for the student (movies, series, music) as a reference for vocabulary and regionalisms. Therefore, if the main goal is to improve pronunciation, I will come up with more phonetical exercises. As for vocabulary, I will bring out texts and articles from different sources, always able to contribute with my parallel lifetime experience as a native of Brazil.
