About Raphael

MY BACKGROUND: I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 2013, with a focus in Science Geography, at Simonsen College (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) where I worked many teaching posts between 2011-2013. I then taught as a Teacher in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at 3 schools named: Matias School, Nilópolis School and Padre Miguel School. Prior to my Education Degree, I also completed 2 years of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, at Unigranrio University (JR, Brazil) in 2008-2009. In 2015, I decided to immigrate to North America, and once here, I sought another passion of mine: Cinema. I obtained yet another Bachelor’s Degree in Science Film Studies in 2018, at Full Sail University (Winter Park, Florida). Due to unexpected financial strains and the need for a higher reliable income during the pandemic, I had to put my teaching career on hold, and I have instead been working as a supervisor at a high-end hotel chain, while private teaching and tutoring on the side. My goal is to transition back to Education full-time.

About the lesson

Hello there, (Portuguese and Spanish below) – FREE 1st session! I’m Raphael Lima, a hard-working, cheerful, and enthusiastic former Brazilian Elementary and High School Teacher with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, with previous experience teaching and instructing students with a wide range of learning disabilities. I am currently privately teaching and tutoring the beautiful language of Portuguese for all levels - both in-person and by Zoom. I especially enjoy teaching beginners as I get to help build their confidence with a strong foundation of Portuguese! I also teach and tutor English as a second language to those whose first language is Portuguese or Spanish, for beginner and intermediate levels. If interested in less formal tutoring and are instead looking for a tutor / teacher who will help to improve your communication skills, I also offer Portuguese conversational classes where you get to choose the topic each session and I will help you to strengthen your abilities to host meaningful conversations in Portuguese! I’m someone who is high-energy and upbeat, with the goal of making each session as fun and enjoyable as possible. At the same time, I am flexible, adaptable, and very resourceful with a very adaptable approach for both children and adults, including those with special needs. I tailor my teaching methods to each of my student’s individual needs, preferred learning styles and devise improvement plans to achieve or exceed my student’s desired goals. GROUP RATES: $35 with an additional $10 charge per student * *Example: For a group of 3 students, the rate would come to be $55/hour *My goal in offering this group rate structure is to allow people who cannot afford sessions on their own to be able to split the cost with others to make it significantly cheaper for each.
