About Oran
I am a London-based composer and multi-instrumentalist, currently studying for a master's degree in composition at the Royal Academy of Music. I previously studied music at King's College London where I graduated with first class honours and the award for the best overall result in the degree.
I am also a pianist, having received tuition at the Royal Academy of Music and with a DipABRSM diploma, and with years of experience performing as a soloist, with ensembles and accompanying choirs. I am also very knowledgeable and passionate about a wide range of music through playing guitar, gigging and recording with various rock and jazz bands.
I have experience of teaching one-on-one and am also currently employed by Lights Camera Score, which involves running lively, practical workshops in schools with classes of young children - often with no musical experience - where we work as a group to write music to go with short animated films, helping them to think creatively about how to match the music to the mood of the film and inspiring them to be enthusiastic about playing instruments and writing music.

When teaching composition, I am keen to tailor my lessons to the specific needs or desires of the student, whether that's helping them with their compositions for GCSE or A Level music or providing guidance and feedback to those who compose as a hobby or passion outside of their schoolwork or job - at any age! I believe that teaching composition should not be about telling students to compose in any particular way or style, but rather to help them most effectively write the music that they want to write and to encourage them to find and refine their own individual compositional voice.
Similarly, I am able to help students who are preparing for ABRSM music theory exams at any level - including their grade five music theory which is required before taking grade six or higher on their instrument or voice - but am also keen and able to give lessons to anyone with a more general interest in music theory or a desire to learn about a specific aspect, whether that's reading music, analysing pieces, learning about harmony and counterpoint, orchestration or anything else!
I also offer lessons in beginner piano, for children or for adults - I strongly believe that it's never too late to start! I'm committing to making enjoyment of the music the priority when teaching piano, and am keen to help students work towards playing the music that they want to play - whether that's classical music, pieces from films that you love or playing your favourite pop songs.
I am happy to teach composition or music theory in person or online, and piano lessons would be in person.
