About Masaya
Hello! I’m Masaya, an experienced English and Japanese tutor. I help students gain confidence in using English and Japanese through personalized lessons tailored to their goals. My teaching approach combines clear explanations, practical exercises, and interactive activities to ensure that students actively use the language in real-life situations. I have delivered over 650 lessons to learners of all ages, from beginners to advanced students, and have conducted more than 300 one-on-one consultations to identify each learner’s needs and provide tailored guidance. Many students have improved their test scores and reported higher motivation and confidence in their language learning. My teaching approach is centred on learner-focused, communicative instruction. I design lessons that actively engage students through practical tasks, meaningful interaction, and personalised support. When necessary, I also incorporate elements of explicit instruction to strengthen students’ understanding of grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. I place strong emphasis on creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable experimenting with the language and developing confidence in real-world communication.
In each class, I typically combine:
Communicative activities (role-plays, discussions, information-gap tasks)
Targeted skill development (grammar clarification, vocabulary building, pronunciation practice)
Feedback and reflection to help learners recognise their progress and set achievable goals.
A typical lesson lasts 50–60 minutes, although I adjust the length based on the learners' needs and school requirements.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in English Education and teaching licenses for junior and senior high school English in Japan. I am currently completing a postgraduate degree in Applied Linguistics at the University of Melbourne, which strengthens my theoretical and practical understanding of language learning, sociolinguistics, and intercultural communication. I have taught over 650 English lessons and conducted more than 300 individual consultations, working with learners from a diverse range of linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
