About Cathryn-Jane
My name is Cathryn! I'm a seamstress and all-round creative from Yorkshire, currently living and breathing the London bridal world.
By day, I take a bride's dream dress and make it fit like a glove. I'm a UAL graduate with over a decade of hands-on experience across the luxury fashion industry, from Savile Row tailoring to luxury bridal and couture houses.
I genuinely believe that everyone has the ability to sew beautifully, whether you're picking up a needle for the first time or you're an experienced sewist stuck on a tricky project. I love helping people understand how garments work, solve problems and build the confidence to make things themselves.
For me, sewing isn't just about getting the finished garment right — it's about understanding why it works, and making the process feel achievable and enjoyable.

My name is Cathryn! I've been sewing professionally for over a decade across tailoring, couture and bridal where precision, fitting and problem-solving are my everyday.
I offer relaxed, practical sewing lessons tailored to what you want to learn. We don't need to follow a set curriculum or commit to a long course — bring me a project, pattern or sewing problem and we'll work through it together.
I can help with:
- Understanding commercial sewing patterns
- Garment construction techniques
- Fitting and making adjustments to your own patterns.
- Working out why a garment isn't fitting correctly
- Alterations and repairs
- Working with difficult, delicate or new-to-you fabrics
- Improving your accuracy and confidence
- Level up existing skills
- Developing college or university projects.
- Taking a project, no matter how big or small, from toile to finished garment
If you've reached the point where you're thinking, "I know roughly what I'm supposed to do, but I have absolutely no idea how to make this work," I can help!
My aim isn't just to show you what to do, but to explain the reasoning behind it so that you can tackle similar problems yourself next time.
In 90min slots either in person or over video call, bring your problem or query and together we'll find a solution.
Whether you're a complete beginner, an experienced home seamstress stuck on a particular project or embarking on an overwhelming task, get in touch and tell me what you're working on.

Without Cat, I don't think I would've gained the confidence to start sewing. It seemed so intimidating! But with her effortless optimism and kind, clear guidance, I'm making MY OWN DRESSES NOW?!?!?! What?! If I'm having trouble with something in a pattern or am trying to bring an idea to life, I always know I can count on Cat to sort me out.
I am a professor. I know what makes a good teacher. Cat has IT. She is an incredibly clear communicator, makes step by step samples and visual aids to display potentially confusing techniques, and never ever makes me feel stupid for asking a question (on the contrary, with every question I learn so much!). She is fantastic at adapting to different needs and learning styles. She is very detail-oriented and cares about doing things well, not just good-enough. She'll make sure you're set up with good practices, brilliant tricks, and professional knowledge to put on your lifelong sewing toolbelt.
Cat really cares--about being a great teacher, an encouraging friend, and a great craftswoman. I promise she's your girl!View more recommendations
