About Roxana
I am a Melbourne based theater practitioner born in Romania, and my career combines academic teaching and research with professional theatre and film practice.
My teaching practice includes positions in the Drama departments in universities of Italy, Romania and Australia. I was the Artist in Residence and Visiting Lecturer in Drama for Venice National Theatre ‘Giuseppe Verdi’ (2009-2012), and have also taught Masterclasses on acting, improvisation, rehearsal systems and performance techniques for students of Monash University, Padua University (Italy), National University of Arts (Romania) and MUST Theatre (Australia).

My system of teaching and research is based on three key theories: Stanislavski’s principles, which I learned and practiced in Eastern Europe, the Brechtian inheritance, which I gained in Western Europe working with Visconti and Stehler’s assistant, and the concepts and techniques of Jerzy Grotowski and Eugenio Barba, that I have analysed in my PhD thesis and I had the opportunity to practice working with Odin Teatret in Denmark.
For the teaching process, I extensively refer to the vocabulary developed by Mayerhold, Stanislavski, Grotowski, Michael Chekhov, Sanford Meisner, Stella Adler, Uta Hagen, Peter Brook and Phillip Zarilli. I have also practiced for specific workshops a fusion of pedagogic methods of the European schools of Brecht, Grotowski and Lecoq.
