Perfect! So far I have liked the pace of our lessons; Faiza is direct but also kind in her teaching style. We agree on working from the bottom-up, and the importance of understanding written language as well as speaking. I feel I have learned a lot already and am excited to see how we progress. My first goal is to nail basic day to day conversations including the home (and food), family, work, getting around/shops etc. I am very methodical so would like to be at a reasonable standard before moving on to the next topic. I find it very useful to see each word as I learn it, and look forward to revising what we've learned in the lesson!

In our first session, Emma was introduced to Arabic greetings and practiced simple conversational phrases. We focused on listening, pronunciation, and basic comprehension.

Content Covered:

Greetings and introductions:

مرحبا (Marhaban) – Hello

السلام عليكم (As-salāmu ʿalaykum) – Peace be upon you

وعليكم السلام (Wa ʿalaykum as-salām) – And peace be upon you too

كيف حالك؟ (Kayfa ḥāluka/ḥāluki) – How are you?

أنا بخير، شكراً (Anā bikhayr, shukran) – I’m fine, thank you

Activities:

Practiced pronunciation of greetings.

Role-played short conversations (e.g., greeting a friend or teacher).

Discussed when and how greetings are used in Arabic culture.

Student Progress:
Emma was enthusiastic and engaged throughout the session. She showed good pronunciation for a beginner and quickly picked up the greeting responses.

Next Steps

Review and practice today’s greetings.

Listen to short Arabic audio clips or videos that include greetings.

Prepare to learn the Arabic alphabet and introducing oneself (name, nationality) in the next session.

I was taught by Faiza Boucetta and I found her to be very thorough and concise. She was able to explain the studied topics very well in a friendly manner and helped with any problems I had with grasping the topics. She gave feedback that enabled me to understand the lessons taught and even stayed behind at the end of the lessons to help with any concerns.
I highly recommend her for any position as she'd be an asset to any company.
