The fellows are my approaches as a tutor and how I share my knowledge:
a) Socratic Method: I engage students by asking open-ended questions. This not only checks their understanding but also promotes critical thinking.
b) Visualization: Chemistry involves abstract concepts, therefore, I apply models, animations, and diagrams to help students visualize and understand these concepts better.
c) Real-life Applications: I relate chemistry topics to everyday life. For instance, discussing the chemistry behind a rusting nail or the reaction involved in baking a cake can make topics relatable.
d) Active Learning: I encourage students to solve problems, conduct simple experiments, or perform calculations during the session.
e) Feedback Loop: I continue assessment to make sure students understand the concepts. In addition, I correct misconceptions immediately and adjust my teaching style according to their needs.
A Typical Lesson Plan:
a) Objective: I begin by stating the goal of the lesson. For example, "By the end of this lesson, you'll understand molecular geometry and its significance."
b) Review: I start by recapping the previous lesson or related foundational knowledge.
c) Introduction: I Introduce the new topic with a fun fact, real-life application, or a demonstration.
d) Main Content: I break the topic into subtopics, by using visuals, ask questions, and get students to actively participate.
e) Practice: I provide problems or questions related to the topic. Let the student attempt them, while providing guidance as necessary.
f) Summary & Feedback: I summarize the key points covered. Ask the student for feedback and understanding.
g) Homework/Assignment: Finally, I assign a few problems or reading to reinforce the day's lesson.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
a) Personalized Approach: Unlike traditional classrooms, tutoring offers the advantage of one-on-one interaction. I adapt my teaching style to fit each student's learning style.
b) Availability: I am always available for doubt-clearing sessions outside of scheduled times.
c) Passion & Enthusiasm: I am genuinely interest in the subject and very passion in motivating my students.
d) Continuous Learning: I keep updating my knowledge and I try my best to attend tutoring workshops. I also take additional courses, or read up on the latest research.
Who the Lessons are For:
a) High School Chemistry: High school students
b) University Chemistry: First-second year chemistry students and students who are taking Organic Chemistry
