Ma Iphie has made such a remarkable impact in the lives of her students, of which I am one. Even till now, she continues to do so. You know those teachers students never have to think twice about before before calling them their favourite? Yes, that’s Mrs. Ifeyinwa also known to us as Ma Iphie.

One thing I deeply appreciate about her is how well she knows her craft and how passionate she is about teaching it. She is really intentional, not just about passing information, but about transferring confidence, understanding and true knowledge to her students.

One of her common sayings is: “Chemistry is a pattern science, I want you to understand it.”

And she teaches with that mindset.

We all know how challenging Chemistry can seem at times. Even after secondary school, there were moments I got stuck on certain topics and reached out to her for help. She never acted too busy, neither did she make me feel like her responsibility as my teacher ended in secondary school. And did I mention that she also teaches at the university level? Versatile, if you ask me.

Whenever she explained a concept, she would always ask, “Do you understand, or do you want a re-explanation?”

I must admit, that level of patience and commitment is rare.
