About Piper

I am a dedicated Chess tutor with seven years of experience teaching college students. Over the years, I have successfully guided around 250 students, helping them improve their skills, confidence, and understanding of the game. My goal is to make chess both enjoyable and intellectually stimulating for every learner.

My teaching philosophy is built on clarity, motivation, and practical learning. I focus on strong foundations such as opening strategies, tactical patterns, endgame techniques, and positional understanding. I encourage students to think critically, plan ahead, and make smart decisions on the board. Every lesson is interactive, combining explanation, practice exercises, and game analysis to reinforce learning.

I also emphasize important skills beyond the moves themselves, such as time management, strategic planning, creativity, and patience. I adapt my teaching style to suit each student’s pace and learning preferences, supporting both independent thinkers and those who need structured guidance.

Throughout my career, many of my students have improved their tournament performance, sharpened their analytical skills, and developed a deep passion for chess. I am proud to see them grow into confident players who can approach challenges with focus and creativity.

I welcome all students who are eager to learn and improve. Together, we will explore strategies, solve tactical puzzles, and develop your skills to reach your full potential in chess.

My chess teaching approach is designed to help students of all levels develop strong strategic thinking while enjoying the game. I focus on building a solid foundation in opening theory, middlegame tactics, endgame techniques, and positional understanding. I guide students through pattern recognition, calculation skills, and critical thinking exercises, helping them make better decisions during games.

I also emphasize practical skills such as time management, planning, and analyzing opponents’ strategies. My lessons combine structured learning with creative problem-solving so students can explore different lines and develop their own style. I encourage students to study classic games, practice with puzzles, and play real or online matches to reinforce learning.

Communication is central to my tutoring. I ensure students understand each concept clearly and feel confident asking questions. Motivation is another key element—I create an encouraging environment where achievements are celebrated and challenges are approached positively. Students are guided to set goals, track progress, and stay disciplined in their practice.

In addition to chess, I incorporate lessons in related strategic games like backgammon, checkers, Risk, and Settlers of Catan to enhance strategic thinking, probability assessment, and adaptability. I also help students develop soft skills such as patience, focus, and resilience, which are useful both on and off the board.

Every session is tailored to the student’s level and goals, whether they are beginners learning the rules or advanced players preparing for competitions. My aim is to cultivate confident, creative, and strategic thinkers who enjoy chess and continuously improve their skills.

This approach ensures students grow not only as chess players but also as disciplined, analytical, and confident individuals ready to face any challenge.
