About Dana

I’m a Los Angeles–based drummer, bandleader, and instructor. I was born and raised in northern New Jersey, where I developed an early obsession with music and drumming that eventually led me to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Music from William Paterson University. While studying there, I performed with the New Jersey Percussion Ensemble and the William Paterson New Music Ensemble, experiences that helped shape my musical foundation and curiosity for all kinds of rhythm and sound.

Over the years I’ve been fortunate to build a career performing and touring with a wide range of artists including Maggie Rogers, BANKS, Joshua Bassett, Jade Bird, MAX and Penguin Prison, along with many others. Touring and recording has taken me to stages and studios around the world and allowed me to collaborate with an incredibly diverse community of musicians.

Some career highlights include performing on shows like Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Late Night with Seth Meyers and performing a NPR Tiny Desk Concert - moments that were surreal, exciting, and occasionally nerve-wracking in the best way.

Despite all the touring and performing, teaching has always been one of the most rewarding parts of my musical life. I genuinely enjoy helping students discover the instrument, develop their musical voice, and experience that moment when something suddenly clicks behind the drum kit. Whether someone wants to become a professional musician or just learn to play their favorite songs after work, I believe drumming should feel challenging, inspiring, and most importantly fun.

When I’m not on the road or in the studio, you’ll usually find me practicing, recording, working on creative projects, or thinking about drums far more than a normal person probably should.

About the lesson

I’ve been teaching drums and percussion for over 20 years and have worked with a wide range of students and ensembles. Over the years I’ve instructed percussion chamber groups, marching band pits, drumlines, pop and rock ensembles, and many private students. I currently offer personalized one-on-one drum lessons both in person in Los Angeles and virtually via video chat for students anywhere in the world.

Whether you’re an experienced drummer looking to refine your technique and explore new musical ideas, or a beginner who simply wants to learn your favorite songs (yes—even the AC/DC catalog), I’m excited to help you reach your musical goals.

My lessons are tailored to each student’s interests and level. We may focus on groove, reading, coordination, healthy technique, music theory, learning songs, improvisation, and building confidence behind the drum kit. My goal is to balance strong fundamentals with practical musical skills so you can become a more well-rounded and expressive drummer while having fun along the way.

I enjoy working with students who are curious, open-minded, and willing to dedicate some consistent time to practicing and improving. My aim is to create a supportive and inspiring environment where students can grow their skills, deepen their understanding of music, and develop a lifelong connection to playing the drums.
