About Timothy

I am a mathematician. I love numbers and the way we can make them dance. Numbers tell a story that is very real. I often see this in my experience as a tutor. Often we are telling our own stories through the math we are doing. In that sense, I help you craft your own story. Mathematics helps the story come to life. Thus I studied mathematics and physics at the University of Michigan. However, I enjoy learning as well as sharing information on a plethora of topics.

About the lesson

My teaching method is a combination of traditional and modern depending on the level of my students. I tend to start traditional by testing what you know through question and answer in a conversational style. I test for understanding, retention and adaptability. I tend to use whatever method works for each student adapting my teaching style to the problem. However, I do use targeted questioning in a Socratic method at times to drive my point. At other times, I use a more modern approach of considering different topics and seeing the larger picture by seeing more than one perspective. I love learning from my students to be a better teacher. So being challenged is important. Therefore at times I may ask you to teach back the material to me. At other times I may ask you to sing a a song or an association you can use to remember what we have learned.
