About Dolores

I was born and raised in Hackney and other than my years studying and working in Bristol, I have trained and taught in London. My interest in Psychology and specifically in child development and learning is what led me to complete my degree, and then to pursue teaching. I love working with students, getting to know them and helping them reach their potential. My studies and experience mean I am confident at tailoring teaching to suit my pupil's learning style and I build positive relationships with all my pupils founded on mutual respect and a shared goal. I will be beginning a Psychology Masters this year and so have resigned from full time teaching, but want to keep my practice sharp and develop my skills by continuing to teach through tutoring. I am excited to get to try out new things and improve my practice even more with the opportunity to work 1:1 with new pupils of a range of ages and interests. Aside from teaching and learning, my hobbies including crafts and outdoor swimming, and along with my studying I think tutoring will add a fun intellectual and rewarding element to my time!

About the lesson

I approach teaching for GCSEs and A-Levels from two angles. First, I identify exactly what the syllabus and demands by studying the mark schemes and past papers. This provides my teaching and students' revision with a structure that ensures they are hitting every point the examiners are looking for, to achieve the highest possible marks. Second, I endeavour to instil in my students a genuine interest in the topics, which I feel promotes understanding, enjoyment, and makes it easier to revise and remember information for exams. To do this I encourage open discussions about the topics covered in the syllabus, and advise students who are particularly interested in pursuing Psychology as a degree or career to seek information beyond their textbooks, be it through documentaries, wider reading, or just searching the web. I am a patient and engaging teacher, and feel well equipped to adapt to students' individual learning styles to ensure they understand the information in the way that best suits them, while also making the experience as enjoyable as possible.
