About Chris
I am a psychology enthusiast who wants to share my passion for the subject with others. In 2023, I graduated from the University of Northumbria with an MSc in Psychology with a distinction grade. The following year, my thesis project was featured in the well-respected peer-reviewed journal Psychology & Health, published by Taylor & Francis. I previously worked for two and a half years as a support worker for the UK's largest mental health charity, where I had the pleasure of supporting hundreds of people in a diverse London borough. I also undertook an evening class in Counselling skills, where I earned a level 3 certificate. I'm more than happy to share real-world advice on gaining experience and thriving in this work for any students hoping to work in the mental health field. My main areas of expertise in psychology are health, clinical/mental health, and qualitative methods such as thematic analysis and interpretative phenomenological analysis. Like many students, I was most anxious about the data analysis module. While I am not an expert in statistics, I'm happy to share the resources that helped me achieve a distinction in this module. Outside of Psychology, my main hobbies are music and fitness. I think most clearly when walking in nature. Developing and sticking to a study routine that suits your personality is a big part of how I teach. I recently relocated back to Scotland and completed an online teaching qualification, so I'm ready to work together to help you achieve your goals.

My style of teaching is very student-centred. Learning is most successful when students are actively involved throughout the lesson rather than passively listening. Therefore, I structure lessons like a study session, where we work together towards your specific goals. I offer a free 30-minute lesson to discuss your study aims and plan future lessons accordingly. These can include understanding course content, revising for exams, brainstorming ideas for essays or thesis projects, suggesting further reading and resources, and developing and maintaining good study habits. As a recently qualified CELTA tutor with a Cambridge-accredited qualification in teaching English as a second language, I have experience planning and conducting lessons for students at various levels. The course was conducted online, so I learnt to use multiple tools to make lessons engaging and interactive in ways not possible in a traditional classroom. I always aim to explain psychological theories and research findings in plain English to break down the barriers overly academic language and complicated figures can put in the way of understanding. Outside of lessons, I offer a proofreading and edit suggestion service (£15ph). I use my experience of what universities and publishers want to help you achieve the improved grades you are capable of.
