About David

I am a fully qualified Science Teacher (QTS) with over 13 years of teaching experience across state schools, independent education, online schools and private tuition.

I hold a PGCE in Secondary Science (Chemistry) with Qualified Teacher Status from Kingston University and a BSc (Hons) in Geology from Birkbeck, University of London.

Throughout my career, I have taught Physics and the other sciences at Key Stage 3, GCSE and IGCSE level, helping students of different abilities develop their scientific understanding, confidence and examination skills.

Between 2019 and 2025, I established and ran a successful private science tuition business, providing personalised online and face-to-face lessons. My practice developed a strong client base through recommendations and referrals, reflecting the importance I place on professionalism, reliability and the quality of my teaching.

My experience also includes teaching in fully online schools, supporting students with additional learning needs, and holding responsibilities for gifted and talented education and curriculum enrichment.

I am familiar with the requirements of major UK examination boards, including AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC/Eduqas and CCEA, as well as Cambridge International qualifications.

I believe that effective teaching combines strong subject knowledge with patience, encouragement and an understanding of how individual students learn. My aim is to make Physics accessible, engaging and rewarding, whether students need help overcoming difficulties or are working towards the highest examination grades.

**My teaching approach**

My approach focuses on building a genuine understanding of Physics rather than simply memorising equations and definitions. I explain complex physical principles clearly, break challenging topics into manageable steps and encourage students to ask questions, make connections and think scientifically.

Lessons typically include clear explanations, diagrams, worked examples, interactive questioning, problem-solving activities and examination-style questions. I place particular emphasis on developing mathematical skills, understanding and applying equations, interpreting graphs and data, and explaining physical phenomena using sound scientific reasoning.

I use regular assessment and constructive feedback to identify misconceptions, monitor progress and target areas requiring further attention.

**Examination preparation**

I provide targeted preparation for GCSE and IGCSE Physics examinations, including support with mathematical calculations, rearranging and applying equations, interpreting experimental data, practical-based questions, extended written responses and examination technique.

I have experience teaching specifications from major examination boards, including AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, WJEC/Eduqas, CCEA and Cambridge International. Lessons can be aligned with the student's particular specification, ensuring that revision and examination practice remain relevant and focused.

**Lesson structure and duration**

Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, although longer sessions can be arranged where appropriate.
