About Gaetano

Teaching Italian combines three great passions of mine: teaching, the Italian language and its culture. To this end, I have been working and training for six years as a teacher of Italian language for foreigners.

- PhD “Diversity and Inclusion” in Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures - University of Bologna and University Paris Nord (Sorbonne XIII) - March 2025.
- Master of Italian Language Didactics - University for Foreigners of Perugia - 2020.
- CELI (CErtificato di Lingua Italiana) examiner - University for Foreigners of Perugia - 2020.
- DILS-PG Level II (Certificate in Glottodidactics) - University for Foreigners of Perugia - 2020.
- Master's Degree in European Literary Cultures - University of Bologna and University of Strasbourg (double degree) - 2018.
- Bachelor's Degree in Classical Literature - University of Bologna - 2016.

Work experience:
- Teacher of Italian language, history and geography in the CPIA (centre for adult education) in Imola (Italy, Bologna) for foreign adults (about fifty students belonging to about twenty different nationalities scattered around the world) from November 2024 to June 2025.
- PhD “Diversity and Inclusion” in Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures - University of Bologna and University Paris Nord (Sorbonne XIII) - March 2025.
- Italian language teacher at the Italian school for symphones “Accademia Eurasia” in Bologna (Italy) from November 2022 to April 2023.
- Online Italian language teacher at the Italian school for Bulgarians “Dolce Stilnovo” in Sofia (Bulgaria) from December 2020 to July 2021.
- Italian language assistant in two middle schools and a high school in Marseille (France) from September until April 2020.

About the lesson

My Italian language lessons are tailor-made for the students. The learner is the core around which every lesson is organised, built and carried out. I am especially prone to set an open and comfortable class ambiance. Moreover, I opt for an approach based on the exclusive use of the Italian language. Students are encouraged to use only Italian in the lessons. They dispose of a lot of room during each class to speak, intervene, express themselves and complete the exercises. In view of the first lesson, students are provided with a questionnaire aimed at identifying the needs and interests of the learner: all the sessions will be conceived on such elements.
The lessons are designed starting from a text (a song, an excerpt from a book, a poster, a blog, etc.). Afterwards, the session is organised in four phases:
- Globality / motivation: this is the initial part of the lesson that motivates and approaches the student to the topic further analysed. A few exercises are here proposed to suggest the topic of the lesson, the lexicon, and the grammatical structures that will be taught.
- Comprehension: the text is presented and read, carrying out exercises on its general and specific understanding.
- Analysis: grammar structures are explained and exercises are carried out on lexicon, grammar, and particular functions present in the text and pointed out to the student.
- Summary: what has been learned is reused in written and, above all, oral exercises.
- In conclusion, the teacher can decide to assign homework. During the last lesson, students are asked to fill a second questionnaire. This will prove useful and necessary for them to test the accomplished language level.
