About Eddie

Hi, I'm Eddie, a recent IB graduate from UWCSEA Dover in Singapore, where I achieved 43 points in the IB Diploma, including 7s in Higher Level Mathematics AA, Physics and Computer Science. In September, I will begin studying Computer Science at the University of Edinburgh.

Having completed the IB very recently myself, I understand the challenges that students face when trying to balance difficult subjects, coursework, extracurricular commitments and university applications. During the diploma programme, I found that some of the biggest improvements in my own performance came not from studying more, but from studying more effectively and developing better approaches to difficult topics and exam questions.

I decided to start tutoring because I remember how frustrating some parts of the IB could be when concepts or mark schemes simply did not seem to make sense at first. Over time, I found approaches that worked for me and helped me improve across almost all of my subjects, and I often ended up sharing those strategies with friends and classmates along the way. Tutoring felt like a natural extension of that, and an opportunity to help other students navigate the challenges of the programme more effectively than I did initially.

Outside of academics, I have spent many years playing and coaching tennis and captained both my school's tennis and softball teams. These experiences helped me develop the communication, patience and mentoring skills that I bring to my lessons.

My approach to tutoring is centred around building understanding first and then developing the exam techniques needed to turn that understanding into strong results. Having completed the IB Diploma recently myself, I know that many students struggle not because they are incapable, but because topics are often introduced in ways that feel more complicated than they need to be.

In lessons, I focus on breaking difficult concepts down into simpler, manageable steps before gradually building back up to more challenging questions and exam-style problems. Once students are comfortable with the content, I place a strong emphasis on past paper practice, recognising common question patterns and developing efficient problem-solving strategies.

For Mathematics and Physics, this often involves working through problems collaboratively and discussing multiple approaches where appropriate. For Computer Science, I focus not only on understanding the theory but also on developing the logical thinking and problem-solving skills that underpin the subject.

Lessons are typically one hour long, although longer sessions can be arranged if required, particularly before examinations or for support with coursework and assessments.

Alongside subject tutoring, I am also able to provide guidance on Computer Science Extended Essays, Theory of Knowledge assessments and broader IB study skills, drawing on my own experience completing the programme and achieving 30/34 in my Computer Science Extended Essay and an A in Theory of Knowledge.

My lessons are primarily aimed at IB students studying Mathematics AA, Physics and Computer Science at either Higher or Standard Level, as well as IGCSE students studying Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science. I work with students across a range of abilities, from those aiming to build confidence in challenging subjects to those targeting the highest grades.
