About Sophia

I am a 3rd-year undergraduate student at New York University, majoring in International Relations and Spanish, with a minor in Peace and Conflict Studies. I am flexible, hardworking, organized, and passionate about cultivating a one-on-one environment with students to increase their fluency and comfort level with the Spanish language. I have developed a curriculum focused on Spanish engagement and immersion to help students of all ages and levels master both written and verbal Spanish, as well as improve their grammar, vocabulary, accent, and whatever aspect of the language the student needs focusing on. I have tutored several students in-person in the past five years, including high schoolers, undergraduates, and post-undergraduate students, and am now looking to conduct Spanish lessons in an online format, catering to each student and their preferred schedule.

About the lesson

As a daughter of a Spanish-speaking mother, as well as someone who studied Spanish in the public school system here in the US for 7+ years, I have both the advantages of both a partially native speaker and a student learning Spanish for the first time with an established curriculum. I have taken over 9 years of Spanish as a student, and have working proficiency in reading, writing, and conversational Spanish. I am most comfortable tutoring students in high school classes Spanish 1-5 or college-level Elementary/Intensive/Accelerated Spanish (US ranking), as well as any beginners or moderate Spanish speakers who are looking to improve their grammar and composition skills, vocabulary skills, conjugation skills, or simply practice speaking Spanish for a half-hour or more. I am offering Spanish lessons anywhere from a half-hour to two hours, and have a flexible schedule that can change when necessary. My tutoring approach involves working in Spanish as much as possible and in as little English as possible to comfortably immerse the student and train them to use the language as if they were residing in a Spanish-speaking country. Any discomfort will be appropriately addressed, but will ultimately lead to a better mastery of the language. My technique is to cater the curriculum and how I conduct my lessons to the student, acknowledging their needs and how they best learn, slowing down or accelerating when required.

Details

Pricing: $15 for Half-hour Sessions, $20 for Hour-long Sessions, and $25+ for 1 hour+ sessions (varying depending on level of student and tutoring required)

Cancellation Policy: If online tutoring sessions are not canceled within one hour of the lesson, a 50% fee will be charged ($10 fee for a 20$ hour-long session)
