About Caelyn

I am a research and development engineer for a global materials science company, and I have degrees in biochemical engineering - with minors in biomedical engineering and public affairs - and engineering and technology management from the Colorado School of Mines. I have been tutoring and teaching students in high school and college math and science for the last ten years, and I have a proven track record of helping students increase their ACT/SAT scores and improve their class scores by multiple letter grades. I specialize in math from pre-algebra to calculus III, chemistry (especially AP/college chemistry), biology (especially AP/college biology), physics, ACT and SAT test prep, and chemical engineering courses (like thermodynamics, material and energy balances, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and reactor kinetics).

About the lesson

I really enjoy math and science, and I really like helping other people learn, so my biggest objective from tutoring is not just to help my students complete their assignments but really understand the material they're working on. I do this through open dialogue with the student, lots of check-ins while we're working through a problem - I always like to ask "does this make sense?" as we're working through a key concept/process - and providing the student with the tips and tricks that have worked best for me to help me understand and retain the material (mnemonics, best practices for problem-solving, etc.). I also always try to show the student multiple ways to do a problem, since I know that frequently the way their teacher has shown them, and/or the way I first showed them, may not make sense to them, and I want to give the student a variety of problem-solving techniques so they can learn to use the one that they understand the best.
