About Sophia

About me - Royal Academy of Music–trained musician - Qualified teacher (UCL London) with DBS. MU & NEU member. Safeguarding trained. -Professional orchestral experience -Experienced primary & secondary school teacher- currently teaching in a local preparatory school -Busy, established private teaching practice - I have a friendly, clear and encouraging teaching style - Lessons are tailored to each student’s goals - Strong focus on confidence, technique & musicality I believe great lessons should be structured, enjoyable and motivating, helping students make real progress while enjoying their music. I can offer beginner to advanced violin and viola lessons. I offer beginner to intermediate piano lessons. I also can offer musicianship, theory, GCSE and A Level sessions.

About the lesson

My lessons are well-structured, engaging and tailored to each individual student. I believe progress comes from a balance of strong foundations, clear goals and enjoyment, so lessons are always adapted to suit the learner’s age, experience and musical interests. For beginners, we focus on good technique, reading music confidently and developing a strong sense of rhythm and pitch from the very start. For more advanced students, lessons may include refining technique, developing musical expression, ensemble skills, and preparing for exams, auditions or performances. I break down complex ideas into simple, achievable steps, helping students build confidence quickly. Music theory is integrated naturally into lessons so it always feels relevant and practical, rather than overwhelming. Above all, I aim to create a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel motivated, challenged and proud of their progress — whether they’re learning for enjoyment or working towards specific goals.
